The Fortezza Vecchia was built by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger between 1521 and 1534. in the interior is the small Church of San Frances­co and archaeological material from the old Roman castrum» The Statue of the Four Moors is situated in Piazza Giuseppe Micheli and was dedicated to the Grand Duke Ferdinando de’ Medici in 1596. The Four Moors, masterpieces by Pietro Tacca, an outstanding sculptor who worked at length for the prestigious Medici family, were not added until 1626. The large Medici Port begins at the Piazza Micheli, con­tinues along the street known as the Via del Molo Mediceo, where the old Fortino della Sassaia is situated, and reaches up to the wharf known as the Molo di Cosi­mo. On the other side of the wharf is an enormous ba­sin with a large dam called the Curvilinea. Further north is the Marzocco Dam. Lastly, between the wharf and the curvilinear dam, which is built on rocks, the lovely l4th-century Lighthouse Tower rises towards the sky.
